Labor Day Weekend Getaway

This past weekend we decided to get out of town for a few days. Since we are always so busy fixing up the house we needed to leave it behind to just relax and enjoy ourselves.

Shortly after we arrived at the hotel Saturday night, we got a phone call to our room from the room below us asking us to keep it down! They said the ceiling was caving in!! The kids were so excited to have gone somewhere that they were jumping from the bed to the floor making our neighbors below crazy...good grief. So we tried to tone it down by watching Mr. Magorium's Magic Emporium. Pretty cute movie...loved Dustin Hoffman using the squeaky gavel to call his meeting to order...what a riot. The next morning on the way down to the hotel swimming pool we noticed that the floor beneath us was littered with conference rooms except for two regular hotel rooms right below ours...of course.

After a few hours of swimming and relaxing in the hot tub, we cleaned up and headed to the Rainforest Cafe for a late lunch/early dinner. We had never been and heard good things. It lived up to the expectation and more. Aidan loved the elephants and their trumpeting every thirty minutes! Quinn seemed kind of bored though. Since I forgot my memory card for my camera and couldn't take any pictures I decided to share some of the funny things that were said:
Aidan
"That was awesome!" (this was said at least a dozen times)
"Are they going to do it again so we can run away from them?" (about the elephants)
Quinn
"Sorry, I'm a little cranky for some reason"

I also put them in a photo booth with their lemur monkeys from the Rainforest Cafe gift shop for at least one photo op!


On Labor Day we went to Union Station and visited Science City, the planetarium and The Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. Science City was a great place for my science girl! They also had several train spotter opportunities for Aidan. There is a fossil dig that gave me an idea for an outdoor sand box. Quinn rode the sky bike balanced on a wire...clearly she doesn't have my fear of heights. As per Quinn's request we went over to the planetarium for the laser light show...five minutes in Aidan and Thom had fallen asleep, Quinn was bored and wanted to leave. I turned out to be the only one enjoying it! The music that accompanied the laser lights included Depeche Mode, B-52's "Rock Lobster", 3 Doors Down, etc. GREAT MUSIC! Quinn was not so impressed.

After a long day we made one last stop at a McDonald's playland and headed home.
